Happy Earth Day: Sewing Green

Sewing Green: 25 Projects Made With Repurposed & Organic Materials,

In honor of Earth Day, I thought I’d tell you all about this great book from Betz White, Sewing Green: 25 Projects Made With Re-purposed & Organic Materials. In the book Betz talks about choosing organically produced fibers, and reusing things you already have such as cutting up unwanted garments, and saving packing materials. What better way to help make a positive impact on our planet, not to mention engage your creativity and save money!

The 25 cute projects are beautifully photographed and include full-sized pattern pieces, making them super easy to follow. But Sewing Green is not just a project book, it contains a lot of great tips on thrifting and how to avoid some of the pit falls as well as featuring other crafters who bring an eco-friendly approach to their work. Sewing Green hopes to inspire you to choose sustainable or recycled materials for your future projects.

handmade felt camera cases

April 15, 2009 - Filed under Acccessories, Felt

I was cruising the archives of etsy’s blog and came across these adorable camera cases made by Hine, a Vancouver based artist who also does stop motion animation. Each one is a unique piece of functional art, handmade with felt and button embellishments. They are so cute, they make me wish I still had a compact camera not just my DSLR.

organic cotton prints from daisy janie

April 11, 2009 - Filed under Fabric

The other day I mentioned the Happily Handmade Giveaway. One of my favorite things about this event is discovering new and talented designers and crafters. While not all of the sponsors are new to me, it’s always great to re-discover a few favs. One of which is Daisy Janie.

I stumbled across Daisy Janie last year and instantly fell in love with her fresh, and colorful patterns, so you can imagine how excited I was to hear that she’s recently released a new collection for 2009. Urbana is based on original, hand-drawn sketches and graphic design. There are 5 prints, each available in three colorways, all printed on 100% organic cotton sateen. Just in time for spring… think of the crafting possibilities.
